How many players are there on a volleyball team? Each volleyball team has six players on the court and six more substitute players seated outside the free zone. In most cases, an indoor volleyball team will have at least 10 players. You need 6 on the court at once and with the different roles and the possibility of illness or injuries, a team is really not fully loaded without usually having at least 10. Coaches usually try to have closer to 12 players for a typical team.
In 2008, the NCAA changed the minimum number of points needed to win any of the first four sets from 30 to 25 for women's volleyball (men's volleyball remained at 30 for another three years, switching to 25 in 2011). If a fifth (deciding) set is reached, the minimum required score remains at 15.
